Randy Leland Hays, 69, passed away peacefully in the early morning of Monday, Dec. 27, 2021, after a battle with cancer.

He was born to Lee and Peggy Hays on Jan. 21, 1952, in Moscow joining three sisters at home in Clarkston. His fourth sister was born a year later.

Randy graduated from Clarkston High School in 1971. He worked at the Dairy Queen then as a builder. Randy was a self-taught carpenter and auto mechanic. His hobbies were horses, model cars and trains. He was restoring an early model Chevy Camaro.

In 1973, he married Judy Schultz. They moved from Clarkston to the Tri-Cities where he opened his own business, Hays Construction. His specialty was wooden staircases. They had three children, Dusty Lee, April Jean and Robert “Bobby” Leland. They later divorced.

Randy loved the outdoors. He enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting in the Tucannon and the Blue Mountains. He looked forward to our Fourth of July family campouts. Randy was a skilled hunter, often hunting with a bow and arrow. He was also an avid fisherman. He caught a trophy steelhead out of the Columbia River that was the full length of his bathtub.

Randy was a son, father, grandpa, uncle and beloved brother. He was preceded in death by his parents, young daughter Dusty, infant son Bobby, infant grandson Korbin, nephew Little Jerry and two brothers-in-law, Jerry Phillips and Dennis Conover.

Randy is survived by his daughter, April Hays, and grandchildren Ashtin and Destiney MacRoberts all of the Tri-Cities, Wash.; sisters Jeannie and Rodney Norstedt, of Connell, Wash., Lela and John Jeffers, of Lewiston, Pam and Jim Petri and Tammy Triplett, of Camano Island, Wash.; and lots of other loving relatives and friends. We love you and will miss you, Randy.

We would like to thank Chaplaincy of Richland and Family Hospice of Lewiston for their team of very helpful, supportive and caring staff. Randy enjoyed seeing them each week. We appreciate the tender care he received from each of you. Thank you all so very much.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. An announcement will be put in the newspaper and on Facebook.
