James “Butch” Daniel passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, May 22, 2019.

He was born May 27, 1946, in Biloxi, Miss., to James and Millicent Daniel. He graduated from Riverside High School in Chattaroy, Wash., in 1965 and entered the U.S. Navy. He served aboard the USS Midway off the coast of Vietnam and then went to the naval base in Guam.

After serving his country, he married his high school sweetheart, Florence Saxon, of Shreveport, La., Aug. 25, 1967. He called her his “Southern Belle.”

He retired from ATK in Lewiston in 2008 after 42 years, starting on the line and working his way up, and he was responsible for starting up the Centerfire Blazer Department.

He is survived by his wife, Florence; his three children, James Daniel, Kellie (Ron) Frasier and Kathie (Ike) Bunce; and three grandsons, Chandler and Collin Frasier and Elijah Bunce. He is also survived by his sister, Diane Hollenbeck; and brothers Steve Daniel, Willie Daniel and John Daniel.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Tina Rogers; his parents; sister-in-law Annie Daniel; and many good friends.

Dad was always there for us kids teaching, loving and leading. His work ethic was ingrained in us and his grandsons. He was a quiet man, but enjoyed teasing and playing tricks on his family. His smile will always be remembered and never forgotten.

My husband was physically a giant of a man and also in his love for me. He was kind, loving and the smartest man we ever knew. “Good night, sweetheart. Love you. See you in the morning.”
