Michael E. “Mick” McClure

Greg Michael Kristof was born in Washington, D.C., in 1946. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1964 and was assigned to the USS Rankin, a WWII-era attack cargo ship that was later recommissioned and used for deploying Marine units for various actions throughout the Caribbean. He said that it was one of his favorite times in the Navy.

In 1965, he went to Navy Nuclear Power and Submarine school. Upon completion of submarine training, he was assigned to the SSBN Daniel Webster, a Lafayette-class ballistic missile nuclear submarine. He made four undersea patrols for his country, then participated in a 14-month major overhaul of the Webster. He was awarded a citation for outstanding performance for his part in the completion of the work and the return of the Webster to sea duty. He was honorably discharged in 1970.

Greg came to Idaho in 1972 to attend North Idaho College and the University of Idaho, graduating with a degree in business administration from UI. He went on to become a business manager for very large construction jobs around the world. The construction of the Hermiston power plant in Oregon was his favorite project. He then rounded out his career as a sought-after consultant who reconciled and settled claims on large construction projects. He retired in Sweetwater along the fishing creek of his dreams.

Greg was a friendly man, with a sharp sense of humor and a rigid sense of fairness. He was thorough in every way, and if he said you were right, you could take that to court. If he said you were wrong, you were wrong. He was quick to anger, fast to cool off and the first to forgive. Although at times, on occasion, he could be a little bit temperamental, he was always utterly reliable.

Greg passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2019. He is survived by his wife, Terry Kristof; as well as his brother, sister, bonus sons, their spouses, eight grandchildren, two nieces and one nephew, all of whom he was very proud of.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. June 21 at Mountain View Funeral Home in Lewiston.
