Eric Lee Mickelson passed away suddenly Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2019. He was a dedicated husband, father, son, brother and uncle.
Eric was born April 21, 1961, in Jerome, Idaho, to Richard Mickelson and Shirley Biggers. His siblings are Mark Mickelson of Lewiston and Melanie Meyer of Clarkston.
When he was young, Eric could always be found outdoors. He loved animals and was always bringing home animals in need. He loved to go fishing, hunting, hiking, skeet shooting and camping with his dad, who he called “Dudd,” and his brother, Mark (“Fly”). Eric loved making up nicknames for people.
Eric met the love of his life, Kellie (Korn) Mickelson, in Bakersfield, Calif. They were married June 30, 1993, and shared 25 sweet years together. Eric and Kellie shared a love and passion for animals. His dogs were very important to him, and he loved all of them: Moe, Rock-Chuck, Jack, Luke, Hank and Rosie. Family and friends often joke that if they could be animals, they would want to be one of Eric and Kellie’s animals, as they are the best-cared-for creatures on the planet. Eric was the proud father of Michael Mickelson and Jennifer Kessler.
Eric worked at Smith International, a company selling oil field drill bits, for 32 years, starting out as a warehouseman and eventually working his way up to district manager. His job took him all over — to Bakersfield in 1994; Houston in 1995; Anchorage, Alaska, in 1997; Stavanger, Norway, in 2003; Tyler, Texas, in 2004; and Tulsa, Okla., in 2009. Eric retired in 2012, and he and Kellie moved to Clarkston to be near his family.
Eric was strong in his Christian faith and had a deep love for God. He was a kind and loving protector, of his animals as well as his family and friends, and was always the one to drop anything and everything to help someone else. He loved to make people laugh, and he never met a stranger.
He is survived by his wife, Kellie Mickelson; his father, Richard Mickelson (with wife Pat); brother Mark Mickelson; sister Melanie Meyer (with husband Dennis); daughter Jennifer Kessler (with husband Jesse); three grandchildren: Adelyn, Aidan and Amelia; three nieces: Krista Belle Bancroft (with husband Jonathan), Chelsea Boyle (with husband Blake) and Shirley Mickelson; four nephews: Corey Meyer, Jesse Meyer, Jeremy Mickelson (with wife Kristina) and Marty Mickelson (with wife Lisa); father-in-law David Korn (with wife Sheila); and mother-in-law Linda Coffey. Eric also leaves behind two dogs, Luke and Hank, and three cats, Jack, Jewel and Lucy. Eric was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley, and his son, Michael.
He will be forever missed by all those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
