Whitman County Superior Court Judge Gary Libey will be leaving the bench later this year.
Libey announced he will not seek reelection and will retire when his term expires in December, according to a news release. He’s served as judge since 2017 and has practiced law in Whitman County for over 40 years.
Local attorney Roger Sandberg has been endorsed by Libey for his position, according to the news release.
Sandberg has been practicing law in Whitman County since 2008 as a public defense attorney in Superior Court, according to the news release. He served as judge pro tem in Whitman County District Court and has also filled in for Libey as a Superior Court Commissioner.
Retired Whitman County Superior Court Judge David Frazier also endorsed Sandberg for the seat, according to the news release.
The next Whitman County Superior Court judge will be elected in November.
