As strong winds and heavy rains gusted through the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley on Friday afternoon, portions of Idaho County were hit by a severe storm that included lightning, high winds, hail and rain.

MOSCOW — The former University of Idaho chemical waste dump behind the Palouse Empire Mall is being moved this week by Environmental Emergency Services of Portland, Ore. Ten truckloads of dirt were hauled from the site Sunday night and Monday night.

George W. Cassell, superintendent of schools at Thermopolis, Wyo., was named superintendent of Lewiston schools Monday at a special school board meeting.
