A Lewiston man was sentenced to 15 years of probation Thursday for molesting an underage girl.
DeWayne R. Hall, 47, previously pleaded guilty to a felony charge of sexual abuse of a child by causing or having sexual contact with a minor younger than 16. A second charge of lewd conduct with a child younger than 16 was dismissed.
Nez Perce District Judge Carl B. Kerrick sentenced Hall to a term of five to 15 years in prison, but then suspended the sentence for the probation term in accordance with a pre-sentencing agreement.
According to court documents, a 14-year-old girl said Hall touched her inappropriately and allegedly groped her bare chest last summer and then touched her inappropriately again in December.
Prior to the sentencing, Hall said he regretted his actions.
“I’m sorry for what I did,” Hall said. “I’ve taken responsibility for it.”
A psychosexual evaluation showed Hall’s chance of reoffending is low.
Hall will have to register as a sex offender. He is not allowed to drink alcohol while on probation and will have to take part in sexual abuse treatment or counseling.
The judge imposed a $2,000 civil judgment, 100 hours of community service and instructed Hall to reimburse Nez Perce County for the use of the public defender office. He was sentenced to 21 days of local incarceration, with credit for time served, and was given a suspended 30 days of discretionary jail time.
Hall has no prior felony convictions.
