The owner of a Lewiston hotel has been charged with allegedly molesting a female customer.

Jagtar “Jack” Tar Singh, 60, was charged Monday with one count of sexual penetration by forcible use of a foreign object. No bond was set since Singh was issued a criminal summons on the charge.

Court records indicate a woman was taken by her friend Nov. 9 to get a room at the Travel Inn, 1021 Main St., Lewiston. The woman reported the incident Jan. 24 to Lewiston police and told them she was “extremely intoxicated” and asked her friend to get her a room there, according to records. The friend got a room for her and tried to buy her a soda out of a vending machine, but couldn’t get it to work and left the woman to stay the night.

The woman told police she woke up and Singh was allegedly penetrating her with his fingers. She did not know Singh beforehand but told police she allegedly knew it was him as she saw him working the front desk when she was checked in. Singh was the only person working that night, according to records.

Police spoke to the woman’s friend and he said he checked her in and left after being unable to get her a soda.

Police interviewed Singh on April 5 and he told police he remembered the woman being checked in by her friend. Singh reported the friend made a comment to Singh about the woman wanting to have intercourse. Singh told police he went to the woman’s room to give her something to drink and the woman opened the door nude from the waist up. He said she hugged him and pulled him toward a bed. Singh denied touching the woman and told police he left the room.

The woman’s friend later told police he did not make any comments to Singh about the woman wanting to have intercourse.

Sexual penetration by forcible use of a foreign object is punishable by up to life in prison.
