Firing up the winter spirit

The wooden lips are aflame as chainsaw artist Matthew Fronk chars the mouth of a bear sculpture to add contrast between its snout and its tongue last week at Locomotive Park in Lewiston. Fronk and his mentor, John Schulz, spent more than a week carving a multitude of sculptures out of Douglas fir and ponderosa pine for the Winter Spirit display that will be lighted later this month.
