COEUR D’ALENE — Former federal prosecutor and U.S. Marine Scott Jones has dropped out of the race for Kootenai County sheriff to attend medical school at the University of Virginia.

The Coeur d’Alene Press reported that Jones is endorsing fellow Republican sheriff’s candidate Bob Norris.

Jones said Norris is the most qualified candidate left in the race. Jones said Norris has effectively done that job before when he managed contracts for the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department.
