Jon Auer, a part owner of Owl Pharmacy, assesses the damage to the building of the Southway Avenue branch after a van drove through north entrance on Monday, Jan 6. According to Lewiston Fire Department officials, two passengers were in the van, neither reported injuries after the accident. The officials also added that there was exterior damage to the building but no structural damage. The Lewiston Police Department is currently investigating the cause of the accident.

A pair of osprey do battle with beak and talon for who gets to sit atop a pole in the parking lot of the Bryden Canyon Golf Course on Tuesday, June 30. Nesting osprey will tend to vigorously chase away other osprey that encroach on their nest area. Osprey have few predators, owls and eagles are among the few that will go for young osprey in the nest. If the nest is reachable, raccoons may also attempt to steal eggs or chicks.

Comet NEOWISE, one of the brightest comets in a generation, streaks across the sky above the Lewiston-Clarkston Bridge on Wednesday, July 15. Before becoming visible, NEOWISE spent most of its life in the Oort cloud where it lacked its dust tail that can be 10 million miles long on comets. Now in orbit on its elliptical path around the sun, NEOWISE's tail can be seen leaving a long curving streak upwards through the night sky. Alongside it a second, fainter, tail can be spotted which is made of gas. While the comet is visible to the naked eye, a better view can be seen of it with the use of binoculars, a telescope or a long exposure photograph via camera on a tripod.

A goose becomes the outlier from the skein as he flies upside down while twisting his head to remain upright as the geese come in for a landing under harsh winds on Mann Lake on Wednesday, July 29. Flying upside down is known as whiffling, whereas a bird will rapidly descend with a zig-zagging motion. The aerodynamics usually at play during flight that give the bird lift become inverted and drop them towards the ground faster.

The giant Desiree peach weighed in at just over 1 pound, 8 3/8 ounces. Schaefer, 74, has been involved in growing peaches since 1955. “It took this long to get the best crop I’ve ever known,” he said.

This year will be Nielson’s 12th and last year doing 4-H as she gets ready to head off to college. Nielson said it is kinda sad because 4-H is her favorite thing to do, but will be looking to become an FFA advisor in college to continue to be part of 4-H and FFA activities. Nielson began 4-H with goats before moving onto sheep and then beef with her first steer the previous year, named Cuddles.

A barge carrying eight 300-foot blades that will become wind turbines is pushed up the Clearwater River to the Port of Lewiston on Monday, Oct. 12. The blades would be removed from the barge by a pair of large cranes and transported onto trucks. The trucks would then bring them to a loading area where they would be prepared to be transported by another truck north along U.S. Highway 95 to their final destination in Alberta, Canada.

The Babb Road Wildfire claimed an estimated 80 percent of homes in the rural town and left residents facing the decision to either pick up what they had left and leave or start life anew.

Jon Auer, a part owner of Owl Pharmacy, assesses the damage to the building of the Southway Avenue branch after a van drove through north entrance on Monday, Jan 6. According to Lewiston Fire Department officials, two passengers were in the van, neither reported injuries after the accident. A pair of osprey do battle with beak and talon for who gets to sit atop a pole in the parking lot of the Bryden Canyon Golf Course on Tuesday, June 30. Nesting osprey will tend to vigorously chase away other osprey that encroach on their nest area. Osprey have few predators, owls and eagles are among the few that will go for young osprey in the nest. If the nest is reachable, raccoons may also attempt to steal eggs or chicks.
