OPTOMETRIST It seems that only recently I was shoveling snow…what a welcomed change it’s been!!! With nice summer weather comes long sunny days, which should remind us all of the importance of Dr. Isaac Bell wearing sunglasses. July is national “U.V. Awareness Month.” Sunglasses are extremely protective and offer much more than just “good looks,” although that’s an added benefit!! Ultraviolet (UV) light from the sun has been proven to cause damage to our eyes. Cataracts, macular degeneration, pterygia, pingueculae, and even eye cancers are all possible from U.V. exposure. These diseases can take many years to develop, but with every sun exposure, we’re adding to our risk – it’s a cumulative effect. For this reason, it’s encouraged that everyone, including children, wear sunglasses. Sunglasses are not just for sunny summer days either, as UV light easily penetrates clouds on cold overcast days too. Does this mean we should never go outside again…NO WAY, we just need to protect our eyes. Do you need some new, stylish, quality sunglasses? At Lifetime Eye Care, we offer a wide variety of prescription and non-prescription sunglasses to fit your needs. At Lifetime Eye Care, you’ll feel the difference!! DR. ISAAC M.
