Blast from the Past / 1991: Southwick pioneer and piemaker

Viola E. Aggar of Lewiston reflected on her life for an Elders story that was published along with this photo by Tribune photographer Butch Ireland in the Sept. 1, 1991, Tribune. The story, by Trib reporter Mike Haberman, recounted Aggar’s recollection of how she transcribed a journal kept by her uncle which recounted his and her parents journey by wagon from Nebraska to Southwick, where she was raised. In 1983, she and family members went to Nebraska and retraced her parents’ route west. She and her husband, Jack Aggar owned and operated Aggar’s Lunch in downtown Lewiston from the late 1940s until the mid-1950s. Viola Aggar became known there for the delicious pies she baked and served in the restaurant.
