With the closure of Catholic high schools in Greencreek and Ferdinand in 1961, several boys from those schools joined the high school boys’ basketball team at St. Gertrude’s Academy in Cottonwood for the 1961-’62 varsity squad that year. The original turnout was 16, according to Jerry Wren, the team’s coach that year, but the nine boys pictured finished the season. The team included (from left) John Foltz, Mick Wimer, George Terhaar, the late Gary Forsmann, Roy Arnzen, Tim Uhlenkott, Rick Gehring, Ray Brady and the late Leroy Frei. Managers Glenn Stolz and Francis Entrup flank coach Jerry Wren in the center. Most of the team members are now 75 years old. This photo was submitted by Wren, who lives in Cottonwood, via Terhaar, now living in the Seattle area.
