On a snowy January day in 1991, Laura and Bud Adamson (left and center) and Laura’s mother, Daisy Stage (right), stepped outside their home along Three Bear Road between Kendrick and Orofino to pose for a photo by Tribune reporter David Johnson. The trio had been selected at random for an interview by Johnson for his long-running “Everyone Has a Story” column, published Jan. 11, 1991, in the Tribune. The three were technically retired, Johnson reported — Laura from schoolteaching and Bud from packing and ranching — but kept pretty busy. “We go all over the country. That’s what keeps us young,” Laura said. Bud still ran more than 100 head of cattle and about 50 sheep, and Daisy kept busy sculpting. In the summers, Bud and Laura liked to head out on horseback for adventures. But on this winter day, all three took a break for cinnamon rolls, coffee and conversation with Johnson.
