The Lewiston couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday with a private family gathering.
Stephen Rice, a graduate of Riggins High School, and Julie Roberts, a graduate of Twin Falls High School, first met in 1967 at Idaho State University. The couple were married June 14, 1969, at the Episcopal Church in Twin Falls.
After their honeymoon, they spent their first summer together operating the Granite Mountain Lookout in the Payette National Forest. Steve entered the U.S. Army basic training in fall 1969 and served for three years.
The couple moved to Lewiston in 1972. Julie spent 35 years as a special education teacher, with 32 of those at Centennial Elementary. Steve attended law school at the University of Idaho, and began his law practice in 1975. He practiced law for 33 years at Aherin, Rice & Anegon in Lewiston.
Julie retired in 2004 and Steve retired in 2008. They enjoy attending their grandchildren’s activities, traveling and spending time at their cabin along Priest Lake.
Their celebration included their three sons and spouses, Jeff (Katie), Brad (Jena) and Mark (Stephanie), all nine grandchildren, and close family members.
