NOVEMBER 26, 1956 - At the Melbourne Olympics, Vyacheslav Ivanov of the Soviet Union won the gold medal in the single sculls. After receiving the medal, he jumped up and down and accidentally dropped the medal through the slats in the float and it sunk to the bottom of the lake.
