BONNERS FERRY - The Lewis-Clark Cubs showed all the wear and tear you might expect from a baseball club playing its ninth and 10th games in nine days.
Thankfully for the Cubs, their on-paper results didn't.
L-C edged Bonners Ferry in Tuesday's American Legion doubleheader away from home, beating the Badgers 5-4 then 7-5. The sweep boosted the Cubs to 12-5 on the season.
"To be honest with you, we were a little lackadaisical all day," coach Cody Weiss said. "Long car ride and they kind of played dead but they found a way to win."
Outhit during Tuesday's action, L-C finally watched its bats come alive in the fifth inning of the nightcap with the Cubs trailing 2-0. The Badgers committed an error to open the frame, then watched L-C hit through the order and plate seven runs to steal a decisive lead.
"That inning, there was one error and that just kind of broke it open for us," Weiss said. "That one error helped us a lot though."
Nine separate L-C players recorded at least one hit during Tuesday's twinbill.
The Cubs will rest today before traveling to face Orofino on Thursday.

Moscow 6, Capitol 1
MOSCOW - Not out of necessity, Moscow coach Griffin Rod all but emptied his bullpen Tuesday against Capitol during a nonleague contest at Bear Field.
And aside from a first-inning run that would give the visitors their only lead, the six-hurler strategy paid dividends for the Blue Devils, who didn't concede a run the rest of the way in a 6-1 victory.
Preparing for a weekend tournament, Rod saved his arms by utilizing six of them - a plan he had sketched out well before Tuesday's game.
"We had a plan coming in," Rod said. "We thought if we could get everybody an inning worth of work, not stress out, stick to the plan, that was ideal and that's what we wanted to do. And those guys did a great job of coming out and doing exactly what they needed to do."
The Blue Devils allowed just three hits, but needed six innings themselves to spark an offensive rally. Moscow plated a single run in the fifth and added on five more in the next frame to produce the final score.
Bryce Mattoon, Chad Robertson and Michael Highfill each finished with two hits apiece. Mattoon, batting ninth for Moscow, recorded three RBI.

Injuries force Colter's Creek to cancel rest of its first season
The Colter's Creek Bucks have been forced to cancel the rest of their debut American Legion baseball season because of injuries, team manager Angi Bromley announced this week.
The first-year team, which is based in the Kendrick-Juliaetta area, started the summer with just 13 players.
"Our roster was minimal to begin with, so a few untimely injuries makes it too difficult for the remaining players to continue without risking their wellbeing," Bromley said in an email to the Tribune earlier this week.
The Bucks went 0-4. They plan on returning to action next summer, Bromley said.
