The Lewis-Clark Cubs in general and Wyatt Baldwin in particular wrapped up their regular season in rousing fashion Monday evening at Harris Field.
The right-handed Baldwin crafted a five-inning no-hitter - and just missed out on a perfect game - in the Cubs' 10-0 win over St. Maries in an American Legion baseball league game. L-C then completed a sweep with a 7-0 win in the late game.
Baldwin threw just 65 pitches, 42 for strikes, and tallied 10 strikeouts and just one walk, which came with one out in the fourth inning. That walk was the only thing that negated a perfect game.
Baldwin is "a little bit of a power guy with a lot of consistency," L-C coach Mark Medalia said. "He's been a top pitcher for us this summer."
The Cubs backed Baldwin with 10 hits, including seven doubles. Baldwin also led that charge with two doubles and two RBI.
L-C pitchers Kyle Van Boeyen and Garrett Beckman combined on a three-hit shutout in the second game. Keegen Tanata led the way offensively, going 3-for-3 with two RBI.
The Cubs (14-16 overall) will open play in the district tournament Thursday at Orofino. The tournament bracket has not yet been set.

Mt. Spokane 14, Asotin Co. 0
SPOKANE - The Asotin County Blues baseball team stayed within striking distance during much of the Washington Class AA Area 3 championship game, but ended up losing decisively to Mt. Spokane.
Even before the title game, the Blues had a trip to the state tournament locked up. They'll open play at State on Saturday at Mount Vernon, Wash., against Richland at 3 p.m.
The Blues (15-20) were down 6-0 after five innings, at which point they decided to pull pitcher Brady Chadwick, who was at 90 pitches. Chadwick could have gone another inning had the game been closer, coach Perry Black said.
The Wildcats then padded their lead with three runs in the sixth and five in the seventh.
The Blues were limited to three hits by Mt. Spokane pitcher Stu Flesland, "a soft lefty who kept us off-balance," Black said. Asotin County had the bases loaded in the second but couldn't muster a clutch hit.
The Blues will travel to Mount Vernon on Friday in anticipation of their tournament opener Saturday.
