POST FALLS - The Lewis-Clark Twins stormed to a doubleheader sweep of Post Falls Thursday, thus wrapping up a regular-season title along with the top seed at the upcoming district tournament.
With their 10-0 and 14-5 victories, the Twins managed to close out the regular league season with an 11-1 mark. They're now 22-20 overall going into a pair of nonleague contests against Walla Walla.
Tyler Gay fired a two-hitter in Thursday's opener - just his third appearance on the mound this summer - and didn't concede a run. Meanwhile, his offense piled on 10 in five innings before invoking the mercy rule.
"You never know what's going to happen in the tournaments," said Twins assistant Kevin Maurer, who noted they've been tuning up Gay's arm in case it's needed at Districts or State. "It's always nice to have someone you can throw out there."
Helping out his hurler, Luke White smashed two home runs in the cleanup spot, while Jessup Scott and Michael Murphy each added two hits apiece.
"Last few games, I'd say last week or so, he's been hitting the ball real well for us," Maurer said of White. "That's what we need from him being in that cleanup role."
Post Falls racked up 10 hits in the second game, though L-C responded with 12 of its own.
Josh Moore collected two - one of which was a home run - and Scott nabbed two more, bringing his tally to four on the day.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL
Jacobson added to Vandal hoops staff
MOSCOW - Idaho women's basketball coach Jon Newlee announced on Thursday the hiring of Jeri Jacobson to fill out the 2015-16 coaching staff. Jacobson begins her first season as a Vandal after spending the last year as the Director of Basketball Operations at North Dakota.
"I am excited to have Jeri joining our Vandal staff and family," Newlee said. "I think she brings a lot of energy and enthusiasm to the position, as well as a great knowledge for the game. She is a young, bright and very talented assistant, who will bring a variety of great attributes to our program."
At North Dakota Jacobson organized team travel and summer camps as well as maintaining the yearly budget. She also oversaw the team's community service.
"Her experience at North Dakota will certainly help us here," Newlee added.
