Blues fall twice
COLFAX - The Asotin County Blues were again hurt by meltdown innings, as they lost to Mt. Spokane 11-0 and the Pullman Posse 9-6.
Only the first game counted against the Blues' Spokane AA League record.
In the loss to Mt. Spokane, Asotin County allowed eight runs in the second inning. Against Pullman, it was a three-run second and six-run fifth that powered the Posse.
"We played 12 innings today and played nine of them really well," said Blues coach Perry Black, who was left frustrated by the three frames that cost his team.
Asotin County (9-13 overall, 3-4 in league) will play in a wooden bat tournament starting Friday in Spokane.

Pullman 8, Mt. Spokane 0
COLFAX - Pullman's Jake Wells was an escape artist Wednesday afternoon.
The Posse ace wasn't at his best, but certainly delivered when it mattered most. The rising sophomore escaped one jam after another as the Pullman Posse came away with a win over Mt. Spokane.
"He's a talented kid. He played varsity baseball for Pullman, he played varsity basketball, so I don't think the moment gets to him," Pullman assistant coach Scott Parrish said. "Athletically he's matured a lot."
Pullman is now 17-5 and 8-0 in league play.
Wells escaped from a bases-loaded jam in the top of the second inning when he struck out Cole Hattenburg in the first game. He avoided any damage in the very next frame, stranding three more runners.
"I'm not thinking about that at all," Wells said of the jams. "I'm just out here to have fun and I know my guys are here to back me up whenever I need it."
Wells, who stranded two more runners in the fourth and two more in the sixth, was able to overcome whatever issues he had with command. He walked several batters, but it didn't matter as he went the distance for the complete-game shutout.
Wells had no shortage of run support, as the Posse put up four runs in the top of the fourth inning. Evan Parks opened things up with a two-run single, and moments later Jake Cillay made it 3-0 with an RBI single. Wells helped his own cause with an RBI single to give his squad a 4-0 advantage.
