Heytvelt gets NBA invitation from Wizards

Josh Heytvelt has landed a spot in the NBA, but it's probably a bit more precarious than he envisioned.
The Clarkston native was invited to join the Washington Wizards' summer league club Wednesday, The Washington Post reported on its Web site. Heytvelt's club will take part in a 21-team gathering July 10-19 at Las Vegas.
COMMENTARY: No apology needed, apparently
Manny Ramirez returns from baseball exile Friday, and the only question the Dodgers have is how soon he will be able to revive the team's suddenly anemic offense. Good thing, because it appears that will be the only question Ramirez has any interest in answering.
He's paid his debt to the game that made him rich and his dreadlocks famous, and he's moving on. There will be no press conferences, no explanations.
Rejuvinated A-Rod sinks M's with homer
NEW YORK - A little rest here and there has done wonders for Alex Rodriguez.
The streaking slugger hit a tiebreaking homer and Andy Pettitte pitched seven strong innings, leading the New York Yankees over the Seattle Mariners 4-2 on Wednesday night for their seventh consecutive victory.
Roddick happy, relieved after win over Hewitt
WIMBLEDON, England - This one meant so much to Andy Roddick.
Because of the stakes: a return to Wimbledon's semifinals. Because of the opponent: 2002 champion Lleyton Hewitt. And because of the circumstances: a five-set grind that began under a bright sun and concluded in shadows, 3 hours, 50 minutes later.
Americans toasted upon their return
TUKWILA, Wash. - Bob Bradley was walking off the practice field toward the team bus when a father stopped the coach of the United States national team with a cheerful yell from a playground.
"Hey, good job on the Confederations Cup, man!" the dad shouted through a chain-link fence as a little girl played nearby. He then raised his coffee cup to salute the coach.
LEGION BASEBALL: Cubs surge to win in tourney opener
The Lewis-Clark Cubs kicked off their Clancy Ellis American Legion baseball tournament with a victory over Hyrum, Utah, at Harris Field on Wednesday evening.
The Cubs defeated the Trappers 5-1 despite not scoring in the first four innings.
Cougs' Thompson, Casto help U.S. collect triumph
AUCKLAND, New Zealand - Washington State's two representatives on the U.S. U19 national team had a solid showing during their first day of international competition Thursday (New Zealand time).
DeAngelo Casto scored 10 points in Group B action of the FIBA U19 World Championship, helping lead the Americans to a 106-55 victory over Iran.
