Larry D. Spencer, 80, of Rathdrum, Idaho, went home to be with Jesus on Friday, Feb. 12, 2016.

Larry was born on July 29, 1935, in Columbia, S.D. He was a carpenter and contractor in Aberdeen, S.D., for many years.

Larry and Arlene moved to the Pacific Northwest in 1976. He and Arlene built and operated Rollaway skating rink in Lewiston. He continued to enjoy his woodworking and gardening through his retirement. He was a master at building beautiful home gardens and patios.

Larry loved his family and wanted them around him as much as possible. He often said his favorite times in life were when his family was around, where he always had plenty of popcorn, wine and chocolate-covered peanuts to share.

Larry is survived by his wife of 61 years, Arlene Spencer; and his four children, Debra (Jim) Thoen, Pamela (Don) Lechner, Jeff (Shelly) Spencer and Shelli (Rick) Pegram; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Janice (Dean) Johnson; and brother Richard (Arlowyn) Spencer; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Irvin and Kathleen Spencer.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. today at Golden Spikes clubhouse in Rathdrum, and a burial service will be held in July in Aberdeen, S.D.

Yates Funeral Home has been entrusted with the care of final arrangements.
