Doris McFarland Knap, 93, died peacefully Oct. 19, 2013, at Bishop Place in Pullman. Mickey, as she was affectionately known, was born March 13, 1920, in St. Maries, Idaho, to Ralph and Dolly McFarland. After attending the University of Idaho for two years, in 1941 she married Anthony J. (Tony) Knap in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, where Tony taught and coached at the local high school. Mickey and Tony celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary before his passing in 2011. They made a great team.
Mickey was an extremely vibrant and passionate woman, a gracious hostess, loving mother and loyal friend. As a coach's wife, she created a hospitable home that also served as an entertainment center for football players, fans, friends, and on many occasions, opponents. She greeted all with kindness, grace and her characteristic smile. As a mom, she was always there for her three daughters ready to lend an ear or a hand, to encourage, instruct or to kiss them better. Her culinary skill gave her (and many others) satisfaction and tasty delights - in fact, scores of invited guests enthusiastically acclaimed her pies the best they had ever tasted. Gardening extended her welcoming style as she always planted colorful flowers that danced their way to her front door. In the late stages of Alzheimer's, it was clear that even this disease did not alter the fact Mickey genuinely liked people. In return for her affection, she was appreciated, adored, respected and oh- so-loved.
Survivors include her three daughters, Jacqueline Wright (Bill Bowler) of Moscow, Angeline (Bill) Nelson of Las Vegas and Caroline (Larry) Smith of Kailua Kona, Hawaii; five grandchildren, Trevor (Luika) Wright of Kailua, Hawaii, Monique (Stuart) Mac-Putz of Nashua, N.H.; Zac (Anza) Smith of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, McKenzie McGehee of Las Vegas and Warren Bowler of Irving, Texas; and eight great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the athletic program of choice.

A family memorial celebration will be held in July to honor the lives of Mickey and Tony Knap.
