George Mattoon, 90, passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at his Lewiston home.

He was born to George and Pearl Anderson Mattoon Aug. 23, 1922, at Sweetwater.

During World War II he served three years in the U.S. Army Air Forces. He was stationed in Japan and in the Philippines. After his discharge, he worked for Potlatch Forests Inc. in the maintenance department. In 1954 he went to work for the plant that is now Twin City Foods, retiring from there in 1984.

In 1946 he married Dorothy Galles and together they raised four children. He was a wonderful carpenter and built eight homes for family and friends. He also built most of the furniture in their home.

He is survived by two sons, John of Salt Lake City, Utah, and wife Jean, and David of Post Falls, Idaho, and wife Kathy; and one daughter, Christine Hogan of Asotin and husband Mike; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Tom; four brothers; two sisters; and his wife, Dorothy.

At his request there will be no public service. There will be a gathering of friends and family from noon to 4 p.m. May 25 at his home, 1128 Burrell Ave. Please join us for snacks and memories.

No flowers please, any donations can go to the Idaho State Veterans Home in Lewiston.
