COTTONWOOD Sylvester J. (Buster) Wemhoff, 76, died of causes related to age Monday afternoon at St. Mary's Hospital here.
He was born Aug. 6, 1914, at Cottonwood to Alois A. and Ida S. Heinen Wemhoff.
He attended school at Cottonwood and Greencreek, Idaho, and then farmed with his father for several years.
He married Philomena A. Arnzen on Nov. 22, 1938, at Greencreek. They farmed in the Winona, Idaho, area until retiring in 1980.
They lived on the ranch until 1989. He moved to Cottonwood after his wife died in April 1989.
He enjoyed baseball and bowling. He was a communicant of St. Anthony's Catholic Church at Greencreek. He was a member of St. Anthony's Society and the Knights of Columbus.
He served as a commissioner of the Winona Highway District for 15 years.
Survivors include two sons, Ray Wemhoff of Kamiah, and David Wemhoff of Clarkston; five daughters, Jean Dustin of Grangeville, Pat Bowersox of Kirkland, Wash., Mary Jo Chase of Alamosa, Colo., Janet Morris of Steilacoom, Wash., and Karen Schumaker of Culdesac; three brothers, Gilbert Wemhoff of Kamiah, Cletus Wemhoff of Cottonwood, and Alois Wemhoff of Lewiston; four sisters, Alma Williams of Felton, Nevada, Lorraine Bunt of Portland, Ore., Rosemary Terhaar of Salem, Ore., and Isabelle Wassmuth of Cottonwood; 23 grandchildren and one great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Ralph and Theodore; one daughter, Margaret Ann; three brothers, Maurice, Robert and Walter; and two sisters, Marcella and Verena.
Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at St. Anthony's Church at Greencreek. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Anthony's, with Rev. Thomas Mathes as celebrant.
Burial will follow at Greencreek Community Cemetery.
The family has suggested memorials to St. Mary's Hospital, Cottonwood, Idaho 83522.
