Sept. 12, 1926 - July 19, 2012
On July 19, 2012, I said goodbye to my love, my friend, my husband. Robert Lee Goodrich began his journey home the morning of July 19.
Robert was born Sept. 12, 1926, to Ward and Leona Goodrich in Fresno, Calif. His brother and partner in crime, Richard, came along in 1930.
In 1944, Robert joined the Marine Corps and proudly served his country in Okinawa, Japan and northern China until 1947. He was a corporal in K Company, Third Battalion, First Marine Division. After his service, he apprenticed in his father's plumbing business and ultimately became a journeyman pipe fitter, supervising work on the Alaska Pipeline and working throughout the Pacific Northwest. When he retired in 1988, he said he never wanted to pick up another pipe wrench. He didn't know that God had other plans for his talents!
Robert and Anita Marie Laws were married Dec. 17, 1981, on the island of Kauai in Hawaii. They made their home in Clarkston and spent summers at Camp Wooten, where "Ranger Bob" worked after his retirement. His profession as a plumber and pipe fitter continued when he and Anita became members of Hard Hats for Christ, serving missionaries throughout the Southwest. He and Anita served for 13 years, and some of his fondest memories were of their four years of service in Mexico among the Tarahumara Indians in the Sierra Madre Mountains, living full time in their 34-foot motor home. Robert's greatest joy was serving his Lord in any way that he could. Robert and Anita returned to Clarkston in 2003 and made their home there once again.
Robert is survived by his love, Anita Goodrich; his brother Richard (Christa); his children, Bonnie Goodrich, Michael Goodrich, Robin Goodrich (Jessica), Kendell Jenks (Jody), Scott Jenks (Wendy); his grandchildren, Lindsey Goodrich (Phillip Griffith), Bryan Goodrich, Tyler Jenks (Becky), Aaron Jens (Jennifer), Brandon McLedo (Missy), Dylan Jenks and Chase Jenks, Carl Hagerty (Nina), Todd Hagerty, Lean Dosch (Todd); and his great-grandchildren, Taylor Tahla, Jacob, Liam, Sophie, Elsie and Kaden.
He was preceded in death by his parents and stepmother, Mae Goodrich, and daughter Karen Hagerty.
To his Christian friends whom Robert met along the way, he never said goodbye, rather "if I don't see you any sooner, I'll meet you at Paul's house." So I'll see you at Paul's house, sweetheart.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lewis-Clark Valley Baptist Church, 710 13th St., Lewiston (behind A&B Foods). Donations may be made to the Seattle Children's Hospital (800-635-1432) or Lewis-Clark Valley Baptist Church (509-758-0132).
