The Mountain View School Board on Monday approved on a 4-1 vote a firearms policy that allows staff members to carry weapons with board approval and specified training.
Superintendent Kent Stokes will put out notice that any individuals who want to carry on the premises can submit an application to the district to be considered for training with the Idaho County Sheriff's Department, board member Mike Dominguez said.
Some community members, including teachers, expressed concerns about the proposal in the months leading up to Monday's vote. The district includes schools in Grangeville, Kooskia and Elk City.
The policy, first drafted by Dominguez, had its first reading in October and has been modified several times since.
