A 48-year-old Clarkston man who crashed his motorcycle Sunday in Asotin County after allegedly being involved in a hit-and-run accident in Lewiston was transported by helicopter to a Spokane trauma center.
Vincent E. Duman was transported via a Life Flight helicopter to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center around 8 p.m. Sunday. The hospital released no information on the patient's condition before press time.
Police said Duman was not wearing a helmet when he allegedly drove a Yamaha motorcycle into another vehicle near the intersection of Eighth Street and Bryden Avenue around 6 p.m. Friday and failed to stop. No injuries occurred in that crash.
Instead of stopping at the scene, Duman, who does not have a valid driver's license according to police, allegedly traveled west down Bryden Canyon and across the Southway Bridge.
Witnesses said he crossed the bridge and struck a median at the Clarkston off ramp, where the motorcycle went airborne and Duman was thrown from the 600cc sportbike.
Witnesses told police Dumas was catapulted from the motorcycle, high into the air, before landing on the pavement near the top of the off ramp.
Police at the scene found the helmet, which Duman apparently had strapped to the seat, lying several feet from where the yellow and black motorcycle crashed against the curb and guardrail.
Lewiston police investigated the mishap in the Lewiston Orchards, while Asotin County deputies and Washington State Patrol investigated the second crash scene Sunday evening.
Duman was initially taken by ambulance to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, where he was treated and placed on the Life Flight to Spokane.
