Lewiston man undergoes mental exam after standoff with cops ends peacefully

Posted: Thursday, January 3, 2013 12:00 am

A 58-year-old Lewiston man was taken to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center Wednesday evening for a mental health evaluation after a short standoff with police.

Lewiston Police Lt. Mike Pedersen said officers received a call around 4:20 p.m. Wednesday from the man's teenage daughter, who said her father was screaming, acting irrationally and had a handgun. She also told them he was allegedly making threats against himself and the police if they responded, Pedersen said. The girl disconnected and called back a couple of times, and arguing could be heard on the line.
