A compromised bridge pier on the ramp leading to the top of Lower Granite Dam has led the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to close the dam to vehicle crossings.

According to a news release from the corps, the foundation of one of the bridge piers was compromised Thursday during construction associated with the dam’s juvenile fish bypass facility. The ramp, on the south shore of the Snake River, allows vehicles traveling along Almota-Ferry Road to reach the top of the dam as well as the Offield Landing boat ramp. The boat ramp has also been closed.

The closure does not limit access to the dam’s visitor center, recreational facilities downstream of the dam or facilities on the north shore of the Snake River such as Boyer Park.
