MOSCOW — University of Idaho center Steven Matlock has been indefinitely suspended from the football team after he was cited Tuesday night for allegedly stealing beer from Moscow’s Rosauers grocery store, according to Moscow Police.
Matlock is accused of leaving the store at 8:54 p.m. Tuesday without paying for two 30-count cases of Keystone Light worth $42.38, Moscow Police Capt. Roger Lanier said. No other items were allegedly stolen.
A report was taken by MPD, but no charges have been pressed.
A university official said Matlock has been “suspended until the matter is resolved.”
According to the police report, the beer was disposed of but wasn’t returned to Rosauers.
Matlock, a senior from Boise, turns 21 on June 30.
The Capital High graduate started 19 games at guard his first two seasons with the Vandals before replacing four-year starter Mike Marboe at center as a junior. He started in all 12 games last season and was a key figure in Elijhaa Penny’s 1,000-yard rushing season — the first for a Vandal since 2007.
Matlock was recently one of four Sun Belt Conference players selected to the Rimington Award Spring Watch List. The award is giving annually to the nation’s best center.
In addition, he was named to the Athlon Sports preseason All-Sun Belt team as a third-team center.
