Lewiston Rep. Dan Rudolph announced this weekend that he will not seek re-election to a second term this fall.

Rudolph defeated incumbent Republican Thyra Stevenson by 26 votes in 2014, in the closest legislative race in the state. He said he loves serving in the Legislature; however, he recently accepted a full-time teaching position at Lewis-Clark State College and won't have time to attend the session in the future.

Rudolph serves on the House Revenue and Taxation, Commerce and Human Resources, and Transportation and Defense Committees.

The two-week candidate filing period for the 2016 primary and general election begins Monday, Feb. 29.
