PULLMAN -- Mansel Simmons, the Washington State football player who sustained injuries in an alleged altercation involving University of Idaho players, regained consciousness Monday, police have learned.

Simmons was originally taken to Pullman Regional Hospital early Sunday morning and diagnosed with possible skull fractures and brain injuries. He was later transported to another hospital.

Police said a UI football player has admitted to being involved in an altercation with Simmons, but the investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made.
