Sweaty spring swiftly shrinks snowpack

The month known more for showers than sun blasted Idaho’s mountain snowpacks. Despite one of the strongest El Niños on record, much of the Pacific Northwest exited winter with a snowpack right around average. The April-to-July runoff forecast was slightly above average for many river basins. Then April happened.
